On October 20, 2016, the D.C. Court of Appeals issued an en banc decision adopting the Daubert/Rule 702 test to govern the admissibility of expert testimony in the case of Motorola, Inc., et al. v. Murray, et. al.  The D.C. Defense Lawyers Association, along with DRI, filed an amicus brief in the case supporting the adoption of the Daubert/Rule 702 test.  Many thanks to the team of DCDLA Members at Goodell Devries (Kelly Hughes Iverson, Kamil Ismail, Craig Brodsky, Erin Christen Miller, and Meghan Hatfield Yanacek) for their hard work in drafting the DCDLA amicus brief and their assistance in obtaining this great result.  A link to the decision is attached.

The 2016 Annual Convention scheduled for Key Biscayne, Miami, had to be canceled due to the path track of Hurricane Matthew.  In an amazing turn of events, the attendees and the Board reviewed options in several states.  In 24 hours, we decided to attend the Regional Hyatt at Cambridge, Maryland.  It was a tremendous event.  The events included an opening reception with fire pit, S’mores, and dinner.  Members received local wines for their travels.

On Friday and Saturday morning, we had the conventional CLEs for Virginia credit.  Special thanks to Nick McConnell, Daniele Herndon, Hugh Farrell, Eric Gunderson, Craig Brodsky, Jim Steele, Nancy Michalski, and last, but not least, the amazing CLE by Senior Member Jack Duncan.

The golfers had great weather on Friday afternoon.  Although it rained because of the hurricane Saturday, we had a great closing dinner with a special crab feast and celebrated the birthday of Jodi Terranova’s husband, Dave.  Finally, the Board approved the new slate of directors.

I am pleased to announce that the Board approved Daniele Herndon to be President, Tim Fisher to be Vice President/President-Elect, Nat Calamis as Secretary, and Erin Miller as Treasurer.  The remaining at-large Board of Directors are Adam Smith, Craig Brodsky, Ramona Cotca, and Justin M. Flint.  Thank you all for an incredible 2015-2016.  We are looking forward to an excellent new year.   DCDLA is in good hands with the new officers.
